Where I've been

Natal / Christmas

Wasn't really sure what to do for christmas... so I stayed over Vando's place christmas eve. When I woke up I got a call from mum, so was wished Merry Christmas by everyone, Mum, Dad, Nathan, Mitchell n Patti. They all seemed like they were having a great time. Wish I could have been there, so I was a little sad, but at that stage I didn't know I was still gonna have a great day, even if I couldn't be with my family... It was my first christmas without them, so it didn't feel quite right, but I still had fun anyways.

At 11 we went to church, it was pretty good, Vando goes to a charismatic church, so it was pretty fun, up beat, has a live band, tv's around the place, so if you're too far from the stage you can still see whats going on.. haha. After that we planned to watch the ice skating Christmas show at IceLand, but we ended up finishing church at 1:30, so it was already finished when we went up to the rink. Stayed n watched for a bit before deciding to go to Amplaz.

We didn't really know what we were doing there.. haha.. just wondering around, anyways Asterix was on at 4 so we were gonna watch that with some of the others. . after they got back to us, turned out they were all busy. . with time to spare we wondered around for a bit, n then went to find something to eat. I shouted Vando at solaria, a fairly nice restaurant on the 3rd floor. Vando took a while to convince... I said I would shout him dinner, n he went to choose the cheapest place, n was gonna get mie ayam (Chicken noodles that you can buy off the side of the road for around 50c) ... took me about half an hour to convince him that I wanted something special, cause it was christmas, and that price didn't matter. (even tho the place we ate at was expensive, we had heaps of food, and for the same price, I wouldn't be able to go to a restaurant in australia alone! so its still lumayan cheep) but honestly, I didn't care... I didn't want to think about money, I just wanted to have fun, to have a great day with my best friend.

After solaria, it was already 4:15, so we missed the movie... instead we watched Madagascar2 at 6pm... I dunno what we did while waiting for the movie to start, haha, but time seemed to pass quickly anyways. Madagascar is awesome!! so funny! as good, if not better than the first, I wanna see it again!

Movie finished, we went to play pool, again, invited the others, but no one could make it. so just me n vando playing pool for a few hours, til a bencong came along, hosting some special christmas activity. Me n Vando were tied together, back to back, and we had to sink as many balls as possible in one minute, we only got three... but hey, thats not bad right??! I mean, our hands were tied together!! Vando was disappointed the bencong was only talking to me... cause I was "sooo cute!!! .. and only twenty" .. he spoke english, cause I told him i didn't speak indo... I wanted to play a prank on him, but it turned out his english wasn't too bad, so didn't really work.. haha. Vando is getting better at pool, or I'm getting worse, I dunno which... we used to be about the same.. but yesterday dy menang terus! ... (sorry for the random indo, some things just dont sound right in english anymore)

So it was a long day, but heaps of fun. My phone battery died halfway through the night, so sorry for not replying to all your christmas messages straight away.. thats what I get for not ever going home for the last week! haha

Pokoknya natalku menyenangkan, walaupun agak simple... aku senang.

Alpha ... Beta ...

Hore!!! Aku kemaren les ice skating.. it was for a full hour! insane... after the lesson I had two tests.
Alpha:
~Forward stroking
~Forward crossover (left & right)
~One foot snowplow stop

Beta:
~Backwards stroking
~Backwards crossover (left & right)
~T-stop (right & left)

its all basic stuff.. but cause I didn't know a few things about the test, i felt like I did really crap.. like, before you start the movement you must be in a  stopped position and assume the correct posture ( I started from a moving position =S ), each stroke needs to be held for three seconds, for all of the moves, and once you stop, you also need to hold the stop for three seconds. backwards crossover are required, not cross cuts... I knew this, but because in the lessons I'm always asked to do cross cuts, I couldn't do it so well. Also.. I wasn't aware that posture, hand position and arm position are marked, so I didn't pay any special attention to these in the test.

with all of this... I wasn't sure how I'd do.. but it turns out I passed both of them =D n the grades weren't too bad either... senangnyaaaa... hehe.. so now there are two more levels left... "Gamma" and "Delta" but with this being holiday season, and thus the small rink being sooooo crowded, leaving no room to actually practice, and having just three lessons left... Im not sure if I can do it.

fingers crossed... wish me luck.

on other thoughts... its not long til I come home now.. I really cant believe how fast its going!! ... I really dont wanna leave jogja.. but to keep me from being sad about it, I'm having as much fun as possible, and trying to think of all the good things back home.. I'll finally get to see all you guys again (well not all, but those of you in adelaide) I'm gonna see my family and friends!! I'll get to go ice skating on a rink about three times the size of the one here!! all the space and freedom!! cant wait. . I'll have to buy some skates first, but that means forking out almost $1000 for good ones!!! haha... a "tad" expensive... And I've learned the art of "Street-Street" here and now I want to apply it to my own town. I'm determined to live a different life when I get home. A better, more fun filled one!! So look out Adelaide!

But before that, I've still got a few weeks here to go insane!!

Three days of nothing but Jalan-jalan

Had a bit of a busy weekend... but I'll try to keep it short and sweet.

Saturday was invited to go to an overnight christmas party with Vando for his church.. but I decided not to go... Instead, I went jalan-jalan-ing wiht Heru and Amel. Was heaps of fun!

Saturday went n ate with Heru, then Amel picked us up from his kost, went to a distro pameran, heaps of clothes n stuff there, all locally made, heaps cheap, n funky designs. I take forever when shopping tho, and didn't wanna make the others bored, so we just had a quick look around before leaving. Amel still managed to buy a jacket. hehe After that it was off to Amplaz to swap a few (few thousand) timezone tickets that Amel had been collecting.. turned out to be over 5000!!! so she got a heap of pens, stationary, accessories, chocolate, drinks and ice cream.. haha.. HEAPS of stuff... (none of the good prizes were there, so instead of getting one awesome thing for 5000 tickets, she was forced to get HEAPS of cheaper stuff.. haha) still awesome, lol.. we got free ice cream n drinks =)  after putting all her stuff in the car we went up to the roof.. just to rest for a while, turned out we were there for about 3 hours or more! haha

Confuseeeeedddd... dunno where to go or what to do.. we drive around aimlessly before deciding on going to benteng.. while there Amel started talking about magelang (her town, about an hour from jogja) saying how she often comes to Jogja, but we haven't been there yet, n there's a few good things to see... So I jokingly said, "why don't we just go check it out tonight" ... nanti beneran loh! ... so we did! haha.. went home, grabbed my camera, then headed off to magelang. glad we went by car, cause it started to rain! in Magelang we went n saw the alun-alun, n then over to Amel's house, met her crazy dogs! haha... one of them, every time you look at it, it just starts rolling around on the floor.. haha... lucu. walked around her area, the houses n stuff are pretty interesting, not indonesian at all.. I think its probably Dutch design... just a guess tho.  Went n took photos EVERYWHERE haha, beside canons, a sign that said "save energy" but ironically had lights all over it so it could be seen at night. there was even a small version of Monas! hehe.

Back to Amel's place... now about 1:30 am.. We decide to go home, n Amel said she would take us! insane! so far... but ok, sure! lol. get back to Jogja and she is dead tired. Me n Heru didn't wanna let her drive back again when she was sleepy like that. so we all ended up sleeping at my kos.

Sunday we had breakfast at PKL at about 12:30.. haha then headed back to Amplaz, kalo nggak salah, played at one of the game centres there, not Timezone, but the same Idea. Bought drinks from McD n hung out near the fountain out the front. Amel had never been to Prambanan before, so why not now? we thought.. haha.. headed over to prambanan, but it was already closed... so I suggested we go to Ratu Boko again, neither of the other two had been there. its not a bad place, but didn't do much exploring again, as the sun was almost set when we got there... so we just went photo crazy instead.. haha

Time for more shopping! haha.. went to a distro on the Ring road (slackers kalo ga salah) I got a jacket =D (senangnyaaaa haha) Amel got a jacket (again) and a hat, n Heru bought a shirt. the guy at the counter said the Distro exhibition was still on n today was the last day, so the discounts are usually big. no one needed to tell us about a discount twice! we were there! haha.. we arrived at UNY and the place was completely packed!! motorbikes n cars everywhere! usually if you park a motorbike they tell you not to lock the steering, so they can move them around as people come and go... we were in a car tho... n the parking guy said not to use a hand break... for the same reason!!! haha.. so we parked where the car in front couldn't leave, n left the handbrake off just incase! crazy! haha

went around to the entrance and it was closed... a little annoyed that we were allowed in to park if it was already finished, we asked n apparently after it cleared out inside, they'd open the doors for more people to go in... we waited half an hour til 9pm... then we gave up.. haha.. but at least we got some shopping from the distro anyways right.

back to my kos to watch a movie... "What happens in Vegas" Amel fell asleep, but she had school the next day, so I wanted to wake her up... turns out her class was at 11am, so she stayed the night again, n in the morning headed back to Magelang.

Today, waited for Heru to wake up... haha... I couldn't get back to sleep after Amel left at about 8am, so just went online. turns out Amel sms'ed me when she got home, the jacket she bought at the distro, and the jacket she bought at the exhibition were exactly the same!!! just a different colour! .. haha.. how can you forget what you bought yesterday??! aneh!

Ice skating for a few hours today... everyone is back from bandung! (guess its not gonna be so quiet at the rink anymore...lol.. now im gonna have to share the ice again) everyone did really well tho!! almost every student came back with at least one gold!! some with SIX!! Sarah n Dewi got gold for everything they went in! crazy.. n Ninik did well with 2 out of 3 being gold!  and Yudhis did quite well too... I couldn't see Dimas' results tho.

anyways.. just got home n thought I'd put all this in words before I forgot! haha

Good night all =)

If you're happy and you know it clap your hands . . . *roar of applause from Bondan*

Saturday Sebel... Sunday Sendiri... Monday Maen di IceLand... Tuesday diem di kosan, bolos karena hujan. . semuanya sendirian... temenku ke mana ya?? kok nggak pernah sms?? Ya udah, aku mikir, I guess they're doing their own thing now. Terus Rabu kuliah... kuliah nggak ya?? aku lupa.. kebanyakan bolos akhir" ini.. hehe... anyways.. I met up with Vando at Inculs after Grammer class.. ternyata dy juga nungguin smsq, n dy juga bosen aja sendirian di kost.. haha.. jadi aku nanya... 'kenapa ga sms??!' Anyways, the whole thing is kinda confusing.. dasar babi! haha... tapi yg penting, Wednesday was the best day ever! haha.. well.. maybe not ever.. but in a long while.. aku 'pelacur' sama Vando di Inculs, abis itu, aku balik ke IceLand dulu...

Ok.. hold it there for a second.. there's something I missed...
I got offered a job!!! =D sengennyaaaa!!! haha ... you'll never guess where... yep.. thats right... at IceLand!!! haha... On the 10th December, almost all of the coaches and students left for bandung, there is a skating competition there.. so they are understaffed. I was offered to become a coach!! ... ME! COACH ice skating!! haha... kok bisa ya??! baru belajar 5 minggu. Kayaknya mereka ga mikir dengan jelas dulu deh! haha. anyways... I drew up a time table with them... turned out to be more hours than i expected (35 per week! haha) but I was still happy, I mean, I play there often enough. so why not work while i practice my skating? anyways... the next day I brought the timetable to uni, n double checked with Sinta, ternyata nggak boleh.. Even tho I wouldn't be getting paid (not allowed cause of the visa) I still didn't get permission to work... =( .. not so bad I guess... cause at the time I was also thinking "I'll have no time for friends.... tp emang mereka masih mau ketemu ma aku??"

ok... so back to the story... I went to IceLand, to apologize for not being able to work.. .they were cool about it. Just hung out there for a bit, kinda boring now tho, cause everyone is in bandung!!! haha.. btw GOOD LUCK GUYS!!!! BRING BACK THE GOOOOOOLLLLLDDDD!!!! =D

another side story... hehe... Since Ice skating lessons, i was always there alone... which didn't bother me, cause I need to practice anyway. so I could still have fun skating, without distractions.. but anyways, now, after a few weeks, I've gotten to meet the other skaters, n the coaches, and it turns out, they're all really great people!! just sux that I make a bunch of new friends one month before I leave!! haha.. but maybe I'll see them at an international ice skating competition next year! haha

so where was I again?? ... oh yeah.. so, after IceLand I went back to Vando's kos n we went n ate... kayaknya... haha.. when do we not eat?? we're always eating... so that's the next logical step right?? then just hung out at Vando's place..  just there for maybe an hour hanging out... the usual.. maen laptop, maen kojotan etc etc.. haha

THEN!!! SUDDENLY!!! you wouldn't believe what happened!!!! .... got you're attention again? hehe... Vando got an sms from Amel (ciiiiieeeeeeee) she wanted to play bowling... sif... so off we went.. Hadn't played in AAAAAAAAAAAGES. Heru had never played before, but he picked it up heaps quick! we suggested he join the bowling team! haha (there is always so much stuff to do here.. and it always seems so easy (maybe cause its cheaper here) but yeah, anything you wanna do, you can do it here, Just made me realize I'm missing out on so much stuff back home!!! I need to get out more! I need to get involved more!! ... Need to do SOMETHING back home!!! even if it means i gotta get a job) (sorry... side tracked again.. hehe)

bowling.. right... so its 5pm... I should have just finished class... (but I didn't go... damn takayama sensei!!!) I get an sms from Laksmi... SHHIIIIIIIIITTTTT!!!! how the hell could I forget?!?! I was supposed to be teaching her how to ride a motorbike tonight!! .. but was only half way through the first game, we'd already paid, and I got a lift with Amel, so couldn't leave straight away... luckily Laksmi had her laptop tho, n she said it was cool if she just goes online at uni while she waits =S so after bowling... straight to campus.

then something STRAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNGGEEE happened!!
Laksmi sat on the front of the bike... alone at first, cause its hard to balance with two people for beginners... anyway.. just as she started the bike up, this guy appeared... looking all confused.. he was asking where gunung kidul (or something) was... I had no idea.. either did laksmi... pokoknya kita cuman tau t4nya itu jauuuuhh... his story was strange... said he caught a bus from there to monjali... n then lost his wallet, walked from monjali to jogja to ask someone how to get home..... now why wouldn't he ask people in monjali??? why come to jogja?? on foot no less!!! ... everytime we asked him something he had to think long and hard first... strange kid... so we figured it was a hoax n he was just trying to get money... to get rid of him, i said I'd take him to the trans jogja bus stop, n he could ask someone there... he refused at first, but didn't leave... so i insisted. I dropped him off n he just stood there with a blank look on his face again... "itu lho mas... masuk sana... nanya mbanya di dalam" aku bilang... he stood there again... bewildered.. the look on his face was like he had come to the city for the very first time from some deserted village, like he had never seen a bule or buildings or cars before.. his expression just so blank... well... what more could I do... he turned and walked away n i went back to pick up Laksmi.

Well.. after that strangeness, the motorbike lesson went quite well... as she started out, it wasn't so promising... she was wobbly as all hell!! .. but it didn't take long for her to get the hang of it.. so after she did a few laps of campus on her own, i jumped on... took a bit of getting used to as well... (and it doesn't help that I'm heavier than her.. hehe) a few more laps, n then we went out on to the main road (all but one of the campus gates are closed at night, so the roads in campus are quiet as.. perfect for beginners) she did fine, up until we came to a series of really high speed bumps in pogung baru (have to admit tho... those polisi tidur are quite difficult to maneuver over, specially when you've only ridden a motor for maybe an hour)

done with the motorbike lesson, went back to Vando's place again, dropped of my bike n waited till we were picked up by Amel (dy bawa mobil.. hehe) (shit it seems like I did a lot on wednesday! I'll try to finish up quick!.. hehe)

So dinner at muara kapuas... A great place, cheap as hell (or used to be til the price of everything rose Rp500). after dinner ngobrol lagi di tempat vando sama yg laen. terus aku anterin Miss Jogja pulang.

udah.. kayaknya.. I mean, the day was nothing special... but its the first time in ages that its been really great to hang out with friends... I guess I've had too much on my mind.. and so have the others.. so its everyone's fault... tenang aja... bukan salah ikan lu yg mati Ndo..

THURSDAY:
wasn't too interesting.. but still a good day none the less.. Even if it did start out with me being sick.. I have a sore throat... maybe too much laughing caused an infection??
went to campus for a while, wanted to steal some water.. hehe.. but the galon was kosong.. so couldn't, then practiced ice skating for a couple of hours, ate with Vando n then hung out at his kos it had been ages since we just hung out... so even tho we weren't doing anything.. just sitting there talking while he played some game on his laptop...lol.... it was good to just catch up again. Just felt like before, when none of us had anything to worry about, nothing preoccupying our minds. We could just chill. Even if it did make me half an hour late for my meeting.. tapi santai aja.. aku ga peduli.. haha.
Sempat sedikit sebel.. haha... nungguin Vando lagiiiii... tp gpp... after the meeting went home, cause still no sms. . was supposed to be meeting up with vando, heru, amel n meme lagi. so I smsed n ternyata mereka udah di Code... kenapa ga sms dari tadiiii??! .. ya udah, gpp... aku blom maem, jadi maem dulu.. n beli obat.. abis makan.... aku malas nyusul... kayaknya mereka udah senang ber4 gitu... jadi aku malas ke sana... aku nonton aja di kos... trus 1 stengah jam kemudian, vando sms "kamu dimana?" ... aku bilang aja aku tadi ketiduran, n ga jadi. ... dy basa basi aja kayaknya.. haha.  jadi ya udah, biarin mereka ber4 cciiieeeee!!!! cciiieeeee!!!! ihiii!! wkekeke

NOW! ... I'm still freaking writing!!! haha... "when is he gonna shut up?!?!" you're thinking... Even tho my throat was killing me this morning.. I feel way better now =) so I think I can still make it for my ice skating lesson... I've already started freestyle moves loh!!!

ok.. thats it from me... I swear... Just wanna say that the last two days have been awesome! I dunno what's different... but I hope it stays this way =D

Hidupku berulang-ulang

Cold Pizza for breakfast... going to bolos my class... why? .. I have no reason... I don't know what's gotten into me lately, why am I so up and down recently??

Routine

Something I used to have in my life... something that kept me from going insane... now... after a 10 months of having no routine... no set structure... no planned events... everything spur of the moment, everything impulsive.... I learned to enjoy it, to love not knowing what was coming next. want to go somewhere and just suddenly leave.

so now, when routine starts to show its face again, it feels strange.. I dont want it anymore.. I dont need it. So why is it here? Why do I feel like my old boring life is already coming back  to me?

Woo hoo!!! Pre-Alpha!!!

I bolosed... again... I know.. its not good... already 3 or 4 times now for percakapan... so no more! no more!! I gotta be rajin...  n I gotta get back into studying again!! But all I can think about is my friends, and I just wanna have fun.. I keep thinking "just two months left.... just two months left" ... so if there is a choice between study and having fun.. i'll choose fun every time. in the beginning it wasn't like that tho, but now I look back at the photos, see the fun that they had, and I wasn't there, and wished I was.

Anyways.. yesterday I bolosed... went for my Ice Skating lesson at 10 (sorry rad, no photos, its a bit hard when I go on my own, I'm not talented enough to take a self portrait while skating) my coach was late, so i had a chance to warm up. It was exam day. but first we had a normal lesson. I learned backwards stroking, backwards cross over, and some other thing i forgot the name of, you glide on one foot in an arc, then you gotta spin 180 degrees so you're still following the arc, but backwards. Its a lot of fun, but the longer I take lessons, the more complicated each action gets, which also means I've started to fall on the ice.  Even tho its getting more complex, it still doesn't seem to be that hard, I mean, I still cant do it properly, but if you practice everyday it wouldn't take that long to get pretty good. There are a few people at the rink who have only been skating for one year, and they're already winning East asia skating competitions!!

Well.. my ujian... there were only a few moves that I had to do... all really basic stuff

Pre-Alpha test includes:
~Two foot glide
~One foot glide (right/left)
~Forward swizzle
~Backward swizzle
 ~Backward wiggle

I scored between 75 and 80% for all of them. which means the first level complete! just another five to go... "just" .. haha. after that I can take a freestyle class! =) haha... but yeah, to do skating in Australia you need to have completed the 5 levels first, so if i can get them done here, or at least some of them, it will make it a bit cheaper in oz... i really wanna continue with this! its so much fun.

After Ice skating I met up with Mita and Ratih, we were gonna play NX2 (like DDR) but went to have lunch at KFC first, then Ratih had an ujian. so Mita and me went back the NX2 place n there were people on it already, so we waited n talked for a while, then went out side n talked some more... came back, they were STILL playing (more than an hour) we waited patiently again.. then they went to buy more coins, so we got on, put in 2 coins, and started playing. when they came back they put their coins in while we were playing. so we couldn't play again... talk about menyebalkan! not to mention rude! ... I didn't want to play there anymore.. haha.. so we went to gale to play the one there.. haha

After that we MTT-ed (muter-muter tanpa tujuan) three times around a round about until we were laughed at by people on the side of the road. then it was time for juice! mix n match hehe.. maaf dama...  I really stole your girl yesterday. then I dropped her home, but stayed long enough to ngenet n eat nasi goreng =) hehe. then on the way home i bought a heap of junk food n rented some movies. I made it through a whole day without Vando!! =) I didn't think that was possible.

Had heaps of fun yesterday! MTT lagi YUUUUKKSSS!!

Randomness

There has been so much stuff happening again.. and I haven't been blogging about it.. I just cant be bothered to be honest.. Its too much of a task, and it doesn't really get read... so i have no motivation..

Dama left on tuesday, I was sad to see her go, but not too sad, cause I know I'll see her again in January when she is back. As a going away gift (among other things) we got her a hammer in the shape of a strawberry, that when used makes a "boing" sound.. haha... kinda random.. i know.

This is a lame entry... I just have no motivation at the moment... its 11pm and I have class at 7am.. fun!

Both Rocky and Vando bought laptops this week.. Vando has been waiting since first semester to get a laptop, he's now in his third year of uni! But he's finally got it!!! Jadi sekarang ga usah pake laptop heru untuk nonton... I mean, ngerjain tugas... haha .. .maaf ya Vando..

I've taken up ice skating lessons.. its a bit expensive, but really fun! I've only had two lessons, but this friday I already have a test! ... so I went skating yesterday for 5 hours to practice, and now my feet have blisters! and I had my first fall on the ice... not exactly fun, but I'm sure there are many more to come! haha.

mmm... what else??? ... I dont know.. Im sure there is something.. i just cant think of it..

well.. anyways.. hopefully I'll start updating more regularly... just two months left til I'm home!!

The ramblings of a crazy man

~I Smiled and it changed me~

Yesterday it was easy... I smiled

Just a smile, and everything was ok.

It started unconvincingly,

An insincere grin pasted on my face.

But it snuck its way in, deep inside...

I smiled and it changed me.

And just like that,

I thought I had found something,

Something great.

A way out, a way up,

A way to make everything ok again.

So I smiled... and it changed me.

I wanted to share it with everyone.

And so I did, it seemed to work.

I smiled and it changed me

And everything was ok

A little strange, but ok..

But it didn't last

I was wrong...

It wasn't real...

There was no miracle cure...

I wanted it to be, but it wasn't..

So there I was...

Smiling...

An insincere smile...

Hoping it would make everything ok...

Hoping it would change me...

But it didn't.

Study .... T_T

I'm so sick of study... admittedly I should be doing more than I am... But I'm still kind of annoyed by the fact that last semester I wasn't allowed to do the classes I should have been in... and because of that, this semester I have to do an entire years work.  So this semester I've just managed to finish all of last semesters work.. now I need to do all of what we've done this semester in the following week before mid semester exams.

Its soooo much work... and its all memorizing.... so after I remember a few hundred new words, kanji and grammar patterns, my brain gets kind of mushy.. if i keep studying it doesn't sink in.. but if I dont study, I cant pass the mid semester exams...

3 Months 7 Days 22 Hours 45 Minutes 18 Seconds... A countdown to Sadness

Recently I can't help but think about going home... back to Adelaide I mean...

Just over three months and I'll leave the country... Indonesia... my second home... my friends.. my new way of life... kekasihku... My new campus.. no more daily street-street... no more cheap food at warungs... no more ice skating on thursdays or playing billiards at Shelter... no more speaking Indonesian... I'll have to use western toilets, and take showers.. Sit alone at bus stops.. back to doing my own washing and cooking all my own meals.. spending too much time online... inside.. at home.. rather than out and about with friends... worrying about money and trying to work out where I'm going to live...

But hardest of all, trying to deal with feeling like a part of me is missing.. like I used to have so much more, and suddenly its all gone.. with the wave of my hand, and a tear running down my face, it will all disappear... not forever... I know that... but it doesn't make it any easier... I don't know how I'll cope when here I see my friends everyday, and yet I still miss them when they're not around...

Shelter

I shouldn't even be here.... dunno why.. but I just wanted to come home... malas maen biliard lagi.. sorry for sometimes switching languages.. but sometimes Indo is just easier.. I prolly should be getting back there actually..  but I'm talking to sam on skype, chatting on msn, updatin my blog, and checking facebook.. I dont really wanna go back! haha.. but I already promised.. so i kinda gotta.

Lebaran

Since that weekend of fasting that I had off... well.. I haven't fasted again since.. hehe... ahh well.. I just had no motivation to go back to it for some reason.. every few days I will end up fasting without even thinking about it.. just cause I'm either too busy to eat, I forget, or cant be bothered... lol... but recently its been harder and harder to find food... today I went to burjo, and it was closed!! closed!! .. its a 24 hour 7 day a week warung... not open...lol..

Now that its almost Lebaran, most people have gone home (mudik) to their home towns to see all their family and what not... out of vando's kos, there is only him left.. so he's staying at my place for the next two weeks probably.. Mas Yodim too.. So I borrowed two mattresses from Aria and set them up in my room... surprisingly everything still fits!

MATA MUUUUU!!!!!

Its dangerous to go anywhere with Vando!!! First he wanted his teeth checked... so I ended up going with him and having a checkup myself... then they wanted to rip out my teeth.. but I wasn't too happy with that idea... the place seemed a bit dodgy... and I haven't had any problems with my teeth.. so why pull them out?? and "sshhhh dont tell the hospital about this" as if that isn't screaming DODGY!!!! so I left my teeth be..

A few weeks later Vando realized his contacts had expired... So he went to get some new ones... I still couldn't understand how you could want to stick something in your eye! .. but before I knew it i was getting asked if i wanted to try some on... I finally agreed and the lady behind the counter poked me in the eye... it was surprisingly not that bad... once it was in... I couldn't even feel it..  So I walked out 4 hours later with a set of contact lenses I don't really need.. but I thought "what the hell.. its only $15 for  months" .. And I've never worn them before, so kinda wanted to try them out... I didn't know which ones too get, but Vando recommended the bule ones, (tho now I realize my eyes are blue to begin with, so should have gone for green.. haha) they look great huh?? =P HAHAHA... kidding.. they look freaky as if I shine a light in my eyes! cause it makes the pupil shrink n you can see my natural eye colour.. robot... eeeerrrr... robot... this does not compute.. zzzzzzz *boom*

Its ok mum... Don't cry

Finally better! well.. its been a lil while.. but I was just lazy to blog about it.. Ended up going to the doctor, was given so many drugs it wasn't funny! had to take three different types, one of which 5 times a day! on top of the flu, i also had a skin infection... no one could really tell me what it was, or how I could have got it... but just recently someone said it looked like it could have been shinggles (like a relapse of chickenpox) so I'm going with that.. Anyway, what's important is I'm all better..

Speaking of which... I also crashed my bike.... I thought I would wait till I was all good again before blogging about it so mum didn't freak out too much.. Went to turn left at a T intersection, and someone was on the wrong side of the road, so i slammed on the brakes and fell, didn't crash into anyone or anything, just fell.. was surprised it didn't hurt at the time.. my bike is fine, and I only had a small scratch on my knee.. but then when I got home my arm was really sore too.. I guess I didn't notice cause of the adrenaline or something... i couldn't twist it for about 2 days.. but after that it was all good again.. I really dont understand how I could have fallen off, not really have been hurt, and there are barely any scratches on my bike... just lucky I guess. =)  ... and honest mum... I am FINE... so dont freak out... hehe.

in other news, its now Ramadan, the month of fasting, I've fasted for a couple of days, but kinda stopped over the weekend... didn't plan on fasting today, but I haven't eaten or drunk anything, so I guess I can wait another few hours.. hehe... we usually get up at about 3am and have breakfast, then its no eating, drinking or smoking (not that i care) until after sunset. and as soon as its time to break the fast, it gets insane here! all the traffic! people everywhere looking for food! haha.

well... a few important things that I missed.. Riri and Ima are already back in Holland =( so no more street-street with them... it was a bit strange at first, but not too bad now, still plenty of street-street to be done, and there's been a few additions to the group... well.. they were always there, but now just more often... Heru, Mita & Dama.. tho not for long, since Dama is moving to Australia next month.

not much else has been happening..  going to a salsa class later tonight, lets hope I dont step on anyones toes!

Ps.. Good luck to all you guys back home about to sit your exams!!! SEMANGAT!!! and what are you doing reading this anyway?? you should be studying!! damn you procrastinators!

The new year

After a delayed flight and an overnight stay in Sydney, dad finally got home. It was great fun having him here.. all the street-street that we did! But I think it kind of wore me out, coz on monday I got sick.. haha.. Anak yg baek kan? nunggu bapaknya pulang sebelum mau sakit..

So anyway, Uni started on Monday as well, but I ended up bolos-ing (crazy indo-english mix :S ) cause I wasn't feeling well.. Spent All day yesterday in bed watching Scrubs, taking medicine and eating.. dvd's spread out all over my room, a bag of tissues beside my bed, uni books on the floor, and clothes everywhere, I mean absolutely everywhere, on the flooor, on the bed dad was using, hanging off the cupboard doors, poking out of draws and hanging off random nails sticking out of the walls... My room couldn't possibly have been any worse... but I was sick, right... I didn't want to clean it all up... and there, out of nowhere came something horrible... a voice.... it was calling... "Bondan..... Bondan..." the curtain opened... it was Vando.... "It's ok" I thought.. not too embarrassed if  Vando saw my room like this... but it wasn't just Vando.. he brought Heru, Kiki and Lindsay (cowoknya vando hehe) so the first time the new guy saw my room it looked like a bomb hit it... they were all asking if there was an earthquake in my room... but what can ya do..  hehe

oh yeah.. speaking of which, I haven't mentioned cowoknya vando before (just teasing btw.. semester ini vando jadi pendamping) All the new Aussies are here, I think there are about 25 of them.. They're not too bad at Indonesian either, dont think it will take them long to get it. (assuming they socialise with Indo people)

Dont think I've got much other news... its Winnie's Birthday today... dunno what we're gonna do for it... thinking about celebrating it in a few days, cause I'm sick.. hehe, tomorrow or friday I should be fine.

anyways, thats it for now.. hope all is well in Australia!

Aku jadi bingung baru” ini… kemauanku kenapa sih… Apa aku maunya karena nggak bisa mendapatnya, atau aku bener” maunya?? … Atau yang lebih aneh lagi, nggak maunya, tapi cuma pengen mau…. Terus, kalo pengen maunya… kenapa nggak mau??

yo mbuh..

Dad's Here!

Heaps has been happening! Which probably means I’ve forgotten half of it.

I’ve been back in Jogja with Dad for 10 days now. Bali was awesome! Stayed with Rocky the first night n then Riri organised a hotel for Dad and I. Was heaps in Kuta, nice place, and cheap as $30 a night.. not bad.. Only had three full days in Bali with dad, but no time was wasted, went around Kuta, Nusa Dua, out to Uluwatu, Rocky’s warung, rented a car and did a day trip up the middle, went to a bunch of places I cant remember the names of… ok got the map… started at kuta, then, Celuk, Mas, Ubud (and monkey forest), Tampaksiring, Batur, Kintamani, Besakih, Klungkung, Kusamba, Sanur and back to Kuta… full day… heaps of fun… you know me… the photos are “coming” haha… if they ever get there… maybe one day I’ll get organised enough to post some again so this page is a bit more interesting… made it out to Tanah lot wich was nice too.. would have been good to get back to Bedugul… so beautiful, but there wasn’t enough time. It was great to take dad around Bali, introduced him to Rocky’s family and showed him where I lived when I came on holidays.

1st of August headed to Jojga.. so much fog / smog.. it was so much clearer before I left for Bali, dunno what the story is there.. anyway, we’ve been pretty busy almost every day. Already made it to Borobudur, Merapi/Ketep/Maggelang area, saw a waterfall out there (where I fell down a cliff and added yet another few cuts to my leg… don't worry mum, they’re almost healed..) stayed overnight in ketep, freezing by the way, if you’re going up to the mountains, make sure you take a jacket! Next day we unexpectedly arrived at New Selo..(yep… nyasar lagi!) then home for some much needed sleep sleep..

A few days later it was off to Prambanan.. I’d been before, but this time it wasn’t completely fenced off, so we got to see the temples up close and go inside a few of them. That night we decided to go to Kali Code… was REALLY quiet, I think it was a Tuesday or Wednesday tho, so fair enough.. anyways… wanted to introduce dad to the local wer a wer population… we sat down to eat, lesehan on the side of the road, finally one came by and I told her that my dad hadn’t been in Indonesia long, she got down on all fours and asked if she could take him home!! Haha… semuanya bilang aku “sadis! Anak jahat. … tapi lucu!!!!” unfortunately there was no solid photographic evidence, so I’m sure all will be denied.

(for those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about… well… I guess one day you’ll hear those few words “a wer a wer a wer” and you will understand)

Which brings us to the beach trip.. yesterday (Saturday) Riri, Vando, Tika, Dita, Wawan, Heru, Sean, Kiki, Sinta, Desi, her lil bro, Dad and I went to Wedi Ombo! Once again, we left around 2 hours late (although, I was told the wrong time to begin with… not blaming anyone… VANDO!!!! *Evil laugh*) little disappointing tho, the well had no bucket, or water in it for that matter, the toilets were a lil dirty, and there weren’t enough sleeping mats… I guess we just got luck the first time… but even tho it wasn’t perfect, it didn’t ruin it for anyone. The beach was still awesome.. went back to the same karang ( I dunno what its called in english) to go swimming, wasn’t as deep, but still enough to swim in.. and yes, I added to my collection of cuts, this one on my arm tho, and not deep at all.. it was all a bit of a rush, we got there at 530pm on Saturday, spent the night there and came home at about 11 o’clock Sunday morning.

Just watched some scrubs, didn’t know what to do next and now its 5pm, here I am writing my blog… finally.. hehe.. I’ve prolly said this countless times.. but I will try to keep it more up to date… oo… I did add a few more place marks on the map I think.. and also a count down for getting back to Adelaide! (^_^ / T_T)

Ok.. well that's it for today… nothing out of the ordinary really.. uni starts on the 25th (technically) .. still gotta do Jap study, but I’ve gotten a bit lazy since dad got here…

Oh yeah! I finally saw Sinta again!! After like a month and a half!

The danger of toilets in Indonesia!

The following post is recommended for mature audiences +18.

Ok… I’m living in Indonesia now, trying to embrace everything, so I’ve gotten used to going to the toilet Indonesian style, using water instead of toilet paper… BUT, I went to Amplaz the day after I got back from Jakarta, wondered around, looking for some sheets n stuff for dad when he gets here.. anyway, after lunch I needed to use the bathroom.

I went in, there was no toilet paper, quite normal… there’s a little tap on the side of the toilet, when you turn it it sprays water so you get clean that way… well… I turned the tap a little bit…. No water came out… “Oh shit, don't tell me this one is broken” I thought… so I turn it a bit more… I hear water coming out, but no pressure… turn it some more… water is finally coming out, but not enough pressure to actually clean.. so I give the handle three turns… finally there is some pressure..  what I didn’t realize, is there must have been other people using water as well, cleaning themselves or washing their hands….. well.. when they turned of their taps… you can guess what happened to mine…. Yep… all the pressure that they were taking went straight back to mine! the water was SOOO FREAKING strong! I couldn’t turn it off quick enough.. painful! It sprayed that hard that water actually went inside!!!  So I had to go to the toilet again, just to get it out.

I know this is gross.. haha.. dunno why im putting this online for everyone to see… well… maybe you can learn from this, so it doesn’t happen to you…

Jakarta

Well... I told Vando ages ago that I wanted to go to Jakarta, and he said his family lives there, and so when he goes home he would invite me and I could stay with him. Sounded like a good idea to me.. So mid semester break came and he and I both caught a bus from jogja to Jakarta. the bus ride was LONG... and FREEZING... they must have thought we were Eskimo's, so they turned the aircon on full ball just to keep everyone "comfortable".

Anyway, I'd had sakit perut for a few weeks by this stage, and it still hadn't subsided.. we got off the bus and found an angkot to get to Vando's house... but on the way, nature called... no toilet in sight... we started walking faster and faster.. i thought i wasn't going to make it.. we finally got there.. saying a quick hello to his mum before running up stairs to the toilet... luckily I didn't embarrass myself.

We decided it might be fun, when I meet his friends for the first time, just to pretend I cant speak Indonesian at all..  it usually went something like this... me speaking english... them looking confused, mumbling a few words, trying to put the english classes they take into practice... not making much sense.. Vando trying to speak english with me, getting frustrated, and then reverting back to Indonesian after a few mins.. always quite funny to see their reactions, especially one of them.. who was talking about me in Indonesian,  saying how he wanted to play a trick on me... then later realizing I'd understood everything he had just said fell silent.. hahaha. Its kind of interesting tho, people will say what they're really thinking, if they think you wont understand.

All of his friends are crazy! And so much fun to be around. The entire time I was there, I don't think I saw Sam without a smile on his face! We all went to movies together, visited monas (the national monument) went to a few different museums, ocean park (similar to waterbomb in Bali) dufan was great fun, it's a theme park in the north of Jakarta. Wanted to get to taman mini and taman safari, but neither of them ended up happening. After about 10 days we stayed at Vando’s relative’s place, it was heaps of fun, Nel took us to one of the biggest malls in Jakarta (and probably Indonesia) Taman Anggrek. The placve is massive, heaps of shops, cinemas, ice skating.. and FOOD! Haha, we played timezone before watching Meet Dave, great movie, starring Eddy Murphy, funny as!

Also went to some festival thing.. I forget what its called, but like everything in Indonesia there was a acronym for it… I’m thinking JRC, but that could be totally wrong (not that any of you would know tho :P )

Spent most of the time just hanging out with Vando’s friends Daniel, Sam and Deby…

ooohh… Vando wanted to go to a history exhibition in the Dutch Embassy, it wasn’t too bad, but it was TINY, so after 2 hours on the bus, we went to this exhibition and saw everything there in like 15 mins!!  “what are we gonna do now” we thought… so he sms-ed his cousin to meet at her school, but didn’t get a reply for ages, so we decided to go to PIM, finally on the bus, he gets a reply, but its too late, we’re already on our way, so we arrange to meet his friend at Versace. Turns out the guy on the bus lied, just so we would get on, so we swapped busses and were almost at Versace, but his friend suddenly changed the plan and wanted to meet at Gramedia, now… on the way to gramedia, I saw a girl, and was thinking… I think I know her!! Turns out it was Ajeng! My friend from Adelaide, she was just home on holidays! But, how weird, if the exhibition wasn’t so small, if his cousin had been faster in replying, if we had gotten on the right bus, or if his friend had of known where Versace was, we would never have ran into eachother!!!  CRAZY … not one in a million, but one in 20 million! Haha

Turns out Ajeng’s aunt owns a school, and I was invited to teach there for a day! So I rock up, do a lil talk show type thing, then play a few games with the kids in English. Some of them were quite fluent, there were a few who had already lived in America and Australia tho. (btw internet just dropped out, looks like I wont be posting this for a while…) the school was a lot of fun! I think I will look into doing some English lessons at some schools in Jogja! This was the last day in Jakarta, we bought our bus tickets home, opting for VIP to save Rp20.000.

On the way home, Vando and I got a little lost, trying to catch up with the others we were going fairly fast through the gangs n side streets, it was night, Vando didn’t see an unmarked speedbump! .. we absolutely flew! Haha.. my whole body lifted off the motorbike and I landed in the front, when Vando landed he was sitting in my lap, still driving down the street!! Haha.. he had to stand up, so I could move to the back of the bike again, I was in stitches, couldn’t stop laughing.

The next day we left at 1pm, turns out that Rp.20.000 was well worth it… in VIP there is NO leg room! Much more space in executive! … tho the bus was relatively empty, so I just moved to a different seat. Arrived back in Jogja at about 4am...

Thanks everyone for making Jakarta so much fun!! Look forward to seeing you in Jogja!!! If not.. hopefully I can get back there sometime before I head home.

I did it again.....

Here it is.. Months down the track from my last blog... and what do i have to say for myself?? ... well... I actually have been writing.... just not that much, and haven't uploaded it yet.. its still on my laptop, which is in Jogja... Right now I'm in a warnet (warung internet = net cafe) not far from Vando's house in Jakarta... well now that I'm here I guess I'll dribble a little bit about what's been going on...

I have no idea what I've written about back in jogja.. so yeah.. this is all a little screwed up..

ok... I finished uni for this semester and am on holidays. For ages I said to Vando that I wanted to go to Jakarta at some stage n he said he was going home for holidays, so seemed like a good time to go.. been here for a couple of weeks, and despite what people say about Jakarta, its actually not that bad.. Ok the traffic is a bit of a test on your patience at times, but with a population of over 20Million what do you expect?? I've met a few of Vando's friends, which has been great. we often jalan2 bareng, watching movies, playing pool, went to ocean park, a bit like waterbomb in Bali.. heaps of fun Rp60.000 entry, not too bad.. like I said, I've only been here about two weeks, but it already feels like they're my close friends, I'm gonna miss them all when I go back to Jogja. Sam, Daniel, Deby, they're all a lil crazy! but heaps of fun.. and Karnel, in northern Jakarta, stayed at his place for the past week (just got back to Vando's today) again, just having fun, roaming around Jakarta. went to the national monument, dufan (a kind of theme park), Taman Anggrek the largest shopping centre in Jakarta... I'm sure you'd love it there mum :P especially trying to find a park in the place! haha.. its got about 6 floors, (marion probably makes up one floor... or less... just to put a scale on it) you can really get lost in that place.. was heaps of fun tho, can easily spend all day in there, we just played timezone and watched a movie, meet dave.. funny as.. must see!

oop... Vando is finished... I guess we'll be going soon... sorry this blog is so all over the place.. My time in jakarta is so much better than this blog makes it seem...

Thanks to everyone for making everything so enjoyable! gonna miss you all!!! Kapan-kapan maen ke Jogja!!! Dan kalo bisa Australi juga... santai aja, nginep di tempatku.. gratis kok.. (biasanya Rp50.000...per malam... tapi buat kalian ... freeeeee :P)

If I can be bothered I'll have to come back and fix this up.. but well.. in the mean time i guess here is a temporary update.... or not so temporary... we'll see.

finally uploaded ...

I’ve done it again… I just cant seem to help it.. there are always so many more fun things to be doing rather than sitting in my room typing out a blog of all the stuff I have done.

Well.. I’ve already had my birthday, I’m old now.. a teenager no more…  kepala dua… it wasn’t a bad day,  so tiring tho. Thursday night I had no sleep AT ALL… just stayed up talking with my kos mates and trying to put windows on my computer, then suddenly the sun was coming up, so we decided to go get breakfast. The next night I was woken up at midnight by my kos… apparently I slept through them bashing on my door, so when I woke up they were all standing around my bed, holding a cake and singing happy birthday. I went outside where I was supposed to blow out the candles… I was just waiting for the flour / eggs / water to be thrown…. I knew it was coming at some stage.. but I got lucky… not until I had sat down was a huge bucket of water thrown at me. Then I was teasing saying I wasn’t wet enough…. So there came the second bucket of water. I chased everyone around the kos trying to grab onto them and get them wet  too, which was kind of un successful. Back downstairs we cut the cake, which was also thrown at me. It was pretty fun tho, now one of my shirts is stained… buat kenangan.. haha. So got to sleep at 4am again… then woken up at 7am by friends in Australia calling to wish me happy birthday. I wanted to do something with all of my kos mates, but here, if its your birthday, you’re supposed to shout everyone, and I just couldn’t afford it. So I ended up going to dinner with all the Anak ACICIS, after that we went to movie box, my kos mates came for the movie… which I ended up sleeping through.. but can you blame me?? Oh yeah… I got a lil kung fu statue from Penyok and Abah, from Adam, Laksmi and Hera I got a mirror with a heap of photos all around it.. and from all Anak ACICIS I got a guitar! Couldn’t believe it! So now, my fingers are in pain but I still cant play anything yet..  Erika said she sent me something too, but it hasn’t gotten here yet, I still have hope tho, one of my friends had to wait about two months before she got hers. And I haven’t sent anything for her yet either!! …. I bought oleh-oleh for a few people in Australia when I was in  KL,,, which also hasn’t bee n sent… I’m so slack.

I cant remember what else I’ve done in the past month… I duno if I said before.. but I’ve joined up to Merpati Putih, its an Indonesian martial arts style, and capoeira, a Brazilian kind of martial art / dance.. both are pretty fun, but its taking it out of me.. I do both of them twice a week, and each class runs for two hours.. so 8 hours a week…  I’m still in pain from last nights MP, but tonight I’ve got capoeira!! Then two days to recover from the week.

Vando had his birthday a couple of days ago too… the 3rd of June, I’m exactly one month older than he is. We didn’t really do that much, just went out for dessert at a place called Chokolat, still, pretty fun, Laksmi and I bought him a shirt.. but I still haven’t gotten it wrapped, so I haven’t given it to him yet, its already three days late..

Yeah… I cant think of what else has been going on… that’s probably about it… I didn’t really want to write another four and a half thousand word essay anyways, so its probably a good thing that I’ve forgotten.

World War III

Well… the title is a little deceiving, its not as bad as it seemed like it was going to be… well not yet anyways.. Its been happening for a while, Adam and Laksmi are being excluded, both from Anak ACICIS plans and from my Indo friends plans.. And I have no idea why… actually, I don’t think it is intentional… but anyway… I brought it up with a few friends, and everything I said was coming out the wrong way. I could see that I was upsetting Riri and it was kind of becoming me against them… which I didn’t want… I was trying to avoid conflict, but instead it seemed like I was creating it.. Im kind of in the middle of these two groups…. Or thats what it felt like… I decided to leave, thinking I would come back once everyone had calmed down. They tried to stop me from leaving, grabbing my phone and helmet, but I left anyway. After driving off I realized I had a parking ticket stuck in my bike… haha… I was supposed to pay for parking there… I went home, grabbed my other helmet and (because I didn’t have my phone) I went to meet the others to tell them I didn’t want to join them that night.. Haha.. Sounds so funny.. Just went home and slept. In the middle of the night Vando and Niken came around and tried to wake me up, but woke up a few other people in the process because I was sleeping with my headphones in. Finally woke up, we talked for a bit and everything just seemed to disappear. We went out last night with my kos mates, played pool, went bowling and ate dinner together and everything seemed fine… even Riri was acting like nothing had happened. Anyway, we all had a great night, a lot of fun, but really tiring.

Ok… I think I’m finally out of things to say.. You’re officially up to date… well that is if you could be bothered reading the four and a half thousand word essay under this..

The Lost Chapters

Well… it has definitely been WAY too long since I have updated… (so for those of you who are actually interested, I apologize). Its just gotten harder and harder to make myself sit alone in front of my computer, when every day I’m invited to go and do something. When I have to choose between going out and having all this fun, or writing a blog, of course I choose fun. So by going and doing all these things, I don’t have time to write, but at the same time, if I freed up all my time to write in here, I’d have nothing to write about. I think its like a paradox or something. Yeah… I’ve heard that word before somewhere..

Anyways, I really haven’t written in this thing for ages, so I have no idea where to start… well… to tell the truth, there are two blog entries I’ve done before and just haven’t posted, but the most recent one is about my time in bali… well… more specifically just Nyepi.. :S ok so what else…

Rocky’s Birthday:
I bought him a cake and some of his fav red label, he invited a bunch of his mates to his dad’s warung for dinner. There was prolly about 20 of us, it was heaps of fun, they all LOVED uno, surprise surprise, and there’s some pretty funny photos of Sat who passed out on a table. Oh and I got to catch up with Arie and Kadek again! They both look so different! But then I guess so do I.

The rest of Bali:

Well… I didn’t really do that much in Bali, but I didn’t go there for all the touristy things, I went to see Nyepi, n to celebrate Rock’s birthday. Still had heaps of fun, went to the beach and spent heaps of time hanging out at his friends kos. It was a pretty good kos, good sized room and kamar mandi dalam, so cheap, and seemed more like the kind of kos I wanted. Friendly people, all around the same age, just had heaps of fun hanging out there. I was already thinking about moving kos before I went to bali, but this made me want to move out even more.

Well… I think thats about all for Bali… I can’t really remember much… mainly just hung out with Rock and his mates… it sucked a bit tho cause he said he’d be finished uni at about 11 am everyday but it turned out to be around 2-3 pm… which kinda sucked at first, but after a couple of days wasn’t too bad, went to the beach or shopping, or just stayed home and played with Koko, he’s so funny. Just reminds me, his birthday is coming up.

Back in Jogja:

Kinda sad to come back, but at the same time, it felt like I had spent long enough in Bali. So back in Jogja, some friends were talking about going to KL for a weekend cause the tickets were cheap as, 600,000Rp return. I said I didn’t really wanna go cause I couldn’t afford it. But after much convincing, by Cheryl, I ended up agreeing to go along, I also realized that I’d be getting paid twice before I left. (wait a min, this KL talk was before bali! Haha… geeze Brendan! Get it right! Cause I didnt’ think I’d have enough money for both)

Anyways, I started looking for a kos, and needed to hurry, cause if I was going to KL, I had a week to find a new place. I  didn’t tell anyone at my old kos (except Karan) that I wanted to move.. The first day I searched for about  7 hours! I was so tired, and my butt so sore from being on my bike all day. But I found a couple of good kos. There was one in particular that I liked, but I couldn’t move in until the 2nd of April (I can’t believe I’ve only been here 3 and half weeks!! Feels like I moved AGES ago) anyway, I decided it was the one I wanted, the room is big, and it has KMD and its 250,000Rp less per month. So I paid a deposit and was going to wait to move in. The only problem being that I had to be out of my old kos by the 28th of March, so I was gonna have to find somewhere to stay for a few days. The good thing about the Malaysia trip was that we were leaving on the 26th and getting back on the 30th.. So I only had to find somewhere to stay for two nights. I ended up asking Karan if I could move all my stuff to his room and camp there.

Kuala Lumpur:

The KL trip happened to fall right around exam week, bad timing… but hey, who could refuse such a cheap trip! Luckily our Percakapan lecturer is super nice and she let us do the exam a week later. The flight was actually from Solo to KL return, so we had to make our way to solo, thinking we were running late, and being as lazy as we are, we really didn’t want to bother with catching the train or a bus there, so we decided to catch a taxi there! Haha. It was the most expensive taxi ride I’ve ever taken (in Indonesia) it took about an hour, solo is around 75km from Jogja. But all up it cost us 50,000Rp each, yep a total of  $6AUD.

We arrived in Solo earlier than expected, because the busses and trains take much longer, and with not much to do, so we just found a place and ate while waiting til we could enter. The guy at customs or immigration or whatever really started to piss me off.. With the visas we have, we are, for the time being, technically Indonesian and therefore are supposed to fill out a local “entry / exit permit” but the guy insisted on us filling out an international one. We are indonesian enough to have to pay the 1,000,000Rp exit fee (which we are able to get waved :D ) but not Indo enough to fill out the local form. It wasn’t that much of a big deal, but the way Phil said it, it made it sound like we were going to have trouble if we filled out the wrong forms, which made me frustrated when the immigration dude wouldn’t listen. Anyways, it turned out when we got to KL that we didn’t even need an entry permit! Gah!

I think we ended up getting in at around 9 or 10 pm Wednesday night… so we just ate and slept. I basically only had three days there, cause my flight home was at 7am on Sunday. Day one we went to the Patronus towers and did a bit of shopping. The towers are pretty amazing, definitely worth seeing, especially at night when they have all the lights on, just beautiful. We were a little disappointed tho, because you can’t go all the way to the top, visitors are only allowed to the sky bridge. At the beginning you gotta watch this video which basically just says how awesome Patronus is and how they help the community and the world and all that, seems a bit ironic, considering its a fuel company, so I’m sure is somehow contributing to global warming. But yeah, the view was awesome, and its free! Which I was really surprised about. I thought the whole building would be offices or something, but in the bottom its actually a shopping centre, so we wondered around there for a bit, no idea what else we did for the day. Haha

Before we left for KL we ran into Genta at Parsley, he was excited as to hear we were going n he suggested we go to Genting highlands, he’d never been, but heard it was awesome. Its like a theme park, but its on top of a mountain! We caught the bus there, along the way I noticed a building at the top of this huge mountain n I thought it would be amazing to go there, after we kept getting higher and higher, I realized that was where we were going! Genting has the worlds longest cable car (I think), and the worlds largest hotel. The cable car was pretty awesome, nice views, but every now and then it’d be a lil freaky as you realized how high above the ground you were, only suspended by one wire. The ride takes about 10mins, so there is plenty of time to freak out along the way. But its amazing there, (I know, I keep saying everything is amazing! ) but you’re literally in the clouds! Its a bit cold there, but once you get moving around its not too bad. We bought out tickets from Central Station in KL, so its was a return bus ticket, cable car transfers and unlimited rides for something like 50 Ringgit. Great deal! (also recommended! Hahaha.. I’m starting to sound like an advocate for Malaysia! Maybe I can start my own travel program :P ) but Genting isn’t JUST rides, there’s also a heap of shops, cafe’s and restaurants there, not to mention a cinema. We spent ALL of our second day running around the place, one of the rides takes you so high you’re in the clouds, its one of the freakiest and most fun rides I’ve ever been on, suddenly you plummet back to the ground before being flung back up the tower again. Took my breath away, but sooooo much fun. By the time we got back to the hotel it was already about 8 pm and we were exhausted, so just ate and slept.

My final day, we went to the Batu Caves, I’m not really too sure what its all about, it would have been great to get a tour guide or something while we were there, all I know is it has something to do with Hindu. It was still cool to see, but it would have been heaps better with the story behind it and more information about the place. After that we headed to china town and the central markets to go oleh-oleh hunting, I felt bad after not bringing anything from bali, so I couldn’t go to KL and come back empty handed again. Though, I’ve only given them to people here… I still have some stuff to send back home… but that means I will need to find the post office in Jogja.. We decided to go and check out the revolving restaurant in KL tower that night, had to pay to get up, but the views were good, they had telescopes up there too, but they were so strong the only thing they would be good for is stalking people! Haha. The restaurant was out of our budget tho, but on our way out we noticed a cheap indian place at the base of the tower, so we ate there instead, nice place, great food and awesome service! Also highly recommended! We didn’t really wanna go home just yet, so we went for a wonder around the streets and then found Mitch some accommodation for his remaining nights. Somehow we ended up in a “reggae” bar, (I say “reggae” because in the three or so hours that we were there, they only played one reggae song). It wasn’t bad, just had a few drinks there before heading home, all the staff seemed to be waria tho, which was pretty funny. By the time we got back to the hotel it was about 2:30 am, and I figured I had to leave soon to catch the bus to the airport, so I just wouldn’t bother sleeping. Packed all my stuff, n made my way back to Jogja. And yes, when I finally got to Solo I was too lazy to catch a train, especially by myself… so I caught a taxi again, butm from Solo to Joga is more expensive, so on my own it cost me a whole $22. Still not bad considering its door to door, and its a TAXI! Haha. In Adelaide it would be about $80 for 25 kilometers!

Back in Jogja - Part two :P

Yaay!!! I’m home! But exhausted as! No sleep last night and barely any in the taxi cause the cabbie wanted to talk to me the whole time. Anyway, quite a few things have happened since I’ve been back, including two weddings, a few birthdays, a trip to an orphanage, kali kuning, merapi, the beach, a music studio and an international day celebration on campus, and I’m no doubt forgetting something as well.

Both of the weddings were pretty interesting, both very different, the first was a muslim wedding, the second was a christian wedding, but still in the traditional Indonesian style. Who would have thought the first weddings I went to were not only outside of Australia, but I don’t even really know the people who married. Its normal here tho, everyone rocks up to weddings, if you know someone who knows someone who knows the bride / groom, then all seems to be fine, if there’s a free feed involved, you can expect everyone to be there! Yes, including the random white people who know one knows. After the second wedding, Ijo, his friend, Indra, his girlfriend and I all went to Kaliurang, it was too cloudy to see merapi again, but at least this time it wasn’t pouring with rain. It was so nice up there. On the way down we stopped at Kali kuning, its said to be good to keep looking young ( I’ve forgotten how to speak english :S ) it was pretty amazing tho, walk down through this valley until you reach the stream, the water looks so pure, and its freezing! Well… refreshing. Haha. So nice, but it seems a bit hard to find, you could easily drive right past it without even knowing, I had three times before!

...I just remembered what I was forgetting…. I stayed with Karan for a couple of days until the guy in my new place had moved out. Piled all my stuff in a cab and moved in.. And haven’t looked back! I love the new place! People are so friendly, around my age, they hang out in the kos, just heaps good friends. Unlike my last kos, where we knew each other, but it didn’t really feel like we were friends. Well.. Yeah… I better take some photos of my new place so you can all see it huh! Ooo and a new development, I think I might get the internet at my kos! I’m kinda excited, means I’ll be online more often, but what I’m really hoping is that it will be fast enough to do a video chat with my family and friends. My hopes aren’t too high tho, I asked about the average speed and one of the dudes said 36kbps… but I think he was refering to the speed he gets when downloading something, which if I’m in OZ is slower than the actual line speed, so I’m hoping its the same here.. Well.. We’ll see I guess, I’m gonna try it out for a month first anyway, if I dun like it.. I’ll just be back at the warnet, no dramas.

Ok… back to the list..

Birthdays:

That would be Lyndle and Cheryl’s.. Both were just the usual, but still fun. We went out to dinner and everyone chipped in for a present. Lyndle’s was at Parsley, not a bad place, its one of the favorites among Anak ACICIS, and she got a cute pair of turtles. I didn’t know what present we were getting her, but yeah, I was a lil surprised to see turtles, so I hope she wanted a pet! But apparently she loves them.. So all is good.  I have no idea what we did after dinner. Cheryl’s was at Via-Via (another ACICIS fav.) also not bad. Both places are a lil expensive… well, not in comparison to Australian standards, but when you can get a meal, including a drink for around 50c, everything “normally” priced seems expensive. After dinner we went to Jendelo, its a nice cafe above a bookstore on the north end of Jalan Gejayan, also a wifi hotspot, but the only time I’ve used the net there it was quite slow. But anyway, we were there for coffee and cards, just in the lesehan playing tongues. Its a pretty fun game, I’ll have to show you guys when I come back. Some of the others went to big belly, so after Jendelo me and Ijo were gonna go meet them there, but as we went past, they were all getting in a taxi, so the night just ended there.

International Day:

UGM holds an international day every year, its actually held over one day and one night. Its an opportunity for students from all over the world who are studying at UGM to show a little bit of their countries culture. In the ACICIS group, there are 28 students, of those there are 25 Aussies and 3 “Dutch” (and “Dutch” because all of them are actually Asli Indonesia) anyway, cause there are so few dutch, they asked Adam and I if we would help them out. So basically, I was dutch for a day, but still helped the Aussies out a lil too. But yeah, day one is mainly all about the food, each country makes a few dishes and either sells or gives it away so everyone can get a taste for the traditional food of that country. There’s also a bit of singing too, it was a pretty good day, we all went insane in front of all the camera and were jumping in on everyones photos, it was nuts. With the “Dutch” girls we made cheese cake, some kind of bread and butter pudding and some sloppy mashed potato salad. Both the sweets were delish, the salad wasn’t too bad, but it looked horrible, so I was surprised to see it just disappear. We sold out in about 40 mins! After the day came to a close, we all piled into the ACICIS house to clean up and chill out for a bit. Ijo said he and Tess were going to a music studio to have a bit of a jam and invited me along. So not long after that we headed down to the studio where Tess was on the drums and Ijo was singing and playing guitar! Didn’t sound too bad either! I wanted to join in, but they weren’t playing from music, and Ijo was facing the other way, so I couldn’t see which chords to play. It was still fun to hang out and see them both play. Niken had a bit of a go on the drums and after a while some of Ijo’s friends rocked up too. Its pretty awesome! We should have something like that in Australia! Its just a big room with a drum kit, two electric guitars, a bass guitar, a keyboard and a few microphones. You can just go in there, pump up the speakers and have a great time making music! The following night was “International night” basically a performance night, each country puts together a traditional performance of some sort, most of them were dances. It was pretty amazing to see. But silly me forgot my camera! Haha, after the last performance Vando and I went and played some pool. (are you getting to see how things just never stop here?)

The Orphanage:

From the International day sales we made around 200,000Rp, we decided we would go to an orphanage and do a heap of shopping for them. Before we went shopping we heard that Sam was in hospital because he had put a cotton tip in his ear and needed it removed, he was ok, but we just wanted to visit him so he could see some familiar faces. He’s such a cute kid, there was another little girl there too, we were joking that she was checking him out. Even tho I think she was probably less than a year old and sam is probably not even two yet. We left together and had breakfast at a nearby warung that plays live music. After breakfast / lunch we headed off to the shops, we bought some milk, biscuits, chips, lollies along with some colouring books and crayons. When we rocked up they were just having their arvo nap tho, so we cruised around and looked at a few near by temples and had lunch at a floating restaurant. Its surrounded by water and to get there you have to pull yourself across the river on a raft / boat type thing. Great place, all the water keeps it cool, not too expensive and the food was nice too. After lunch we headed back to the orphanage, it was a little bit of a shock at first, because most of the kids there have some form of disability, both mental and physical, but it didn’t take long to get over this and just have fun with them. They mainly spend the whole time colouring the Popeye books while eating all the food we brought. Some of them were pretty funny. I started colouring with them, and wasn’t putting any effort into it.. Just colouring like I was still 4 years old, and one of the girls kept commenting on how good my colouring was, once I had finished I decided to give it to her, she looked so happy, she immediately took it and walked away with it under her arm.

This has gotta be getting boring by now.. I just keep saying how fun everything is.. Haha… but I dunno what else to say, I’m just having a great time here, there is ALWAYS something to do. Even today, as I’m here typing this, (procrastinating from all the work I should be doing) I had to blow off a trip up a mountain do to it, I already went out with my kos mates for breakfast, I was invited to play soccer this afternoon by Hee Jae the crazy Korean (he’s so funny), Niken and Ima came to collect their camera which resulted in lunch together and there are plans for dinner tonight to celebrate Yodim’s birthday. This is what my “day’s off” are like. Don’t get me wrong, I love always having something to do, but sometimes I just get so exhausted. Not to mention I have barely done any study since I’ve been here, but that hasn’t really presented a problem so far, so fingers crossed it wont in the future.

I have no idea what I’m talking about anymore… I’ve just been out and had a haircut, the cheapest haircut EVER!!!! No really, if you can get your hair cut cheaper, I’ll give you…. 50,000 (lima puluh ribu!) and friend discounts don’t count, it has to be the full priced cut…. Ok… you ready…. Here it is… 4000Rp… yep.. Thats right… 50c Australian! Well I guess you can add haircut to the list of unplanned events today.

Woah… I’ve been writing this thing ALL day! Well… basically… its taken MUCH longer than I thought! Its 6pm already! I began this thing thinking, “I’ll just write my blog and then start all the study I have to do”… gah… wrong decision.. Here it is… already almost 4000 words and I still need to talk about the beach! If only writing essays was this easy! Mmm maybe I should put intermission breaks in this thing… turn it into a three part series… good idea.. I’ll go back and add em in… on second thought, after scrolling up and seeing that there are six pages… I think I’ll just leave it up to you for when you take your toilet / coffee breaks.

Ok… the beach… (I’ll try to make this quick) I can never remember the name of which beach I went to… I thought it was Udiombo… but that might be a mountain,,, I have no idea.. It sounds kinda like that anyway… haha.. I sound like such a foreigner! Anyway, the beach! (trying to keep on track!) we decided to leave at 1pm by motorbike, so it would be cheaper for everyone, and being the usual Indo crew, we were 2 hours late and didn’t leave til 3pm, I’m not trying to be nasty, but well… I’m pretty sure Jam Karet is an Indonesian creation.. (damn it! It was less than 2 lines ago that I said I was keeping on track!) Anyways… we left, got there at 7pm!! My butt was so sore, haha… but we weren’t driving the whole time, we had to wait for the police (someone’s bike wasn’t up to scratch), went to the mosque for prayer, waited for the rain and then finally arrived.

The following day we spent on the beach, so much fun, taking heaps of photos, walking along the beach, we came across a rocky area which seemed to block the huge waves, it looked pretty clear and relatively calm in comparison to the actual beach. We swam there for a few hours, the waves kept getting bigger and bigger until we were being dragged around and pushed into rocks, it became to dangerous to swim.. But before I got out I managed to get slammed into the rocks too, not that badly tho, just small cuts all over my feet and only one deep one on my toe. (btw I’ve just been told the beach is Wediombo). Met some of Vando’s friends when we were there, pretty cool people, except one of their motorbikes broke down so only two of them could come..

We didn’t really do much at the beach, just relaxed.. The place we stayed in was just a huge open pendopo, it was great, at night it was even a little cold, and there were NO mosquitoes! So surprised. On the way back there was a couple of accidents…. Three people fell from their bikes because the roads were either all up hill or down and really curvy, but they’re all ok… just in a bit of shock at the time. On the way back we stopped at a warung on the side of the mountain, great views of jogja. Wow… that actually was relatively quick…

well… its now 6:15 pm… and I haven’t studied at all today, supposed to be going somewhere for Yodims birthday at 9…. Maybe I’ll just go to a warnet and upload this instead of studying today…
